Late Shri Nilkanth Chintaman Joshi
M.Sc., M.A. — Educationist & Freedom Fighter
The Institute of Science, Poona was established in 1956 to propagate scientific attitude among the younger generation of society by Late Shri. Nilkanth Chintaman Joshi (alias N.C. Joshi), M.Sc., M.A. — a well-known educationist who spent his entire life in the field of education.
Shri N.C. Joshi was closely associated with Pune University for more than five decades. He served as Dean of the Science Faculty, Member of Senate, and Member of Academic Council for a long period, sharing his knowledge and administrative skills extensively.
He guided the establishment of educational institutes in rural areas of Maharashtra and provided consultation to numerous institutes and NGOs, all of which benefited greatly from his wisdom and experience.
Beyond academics, Shri N.C. Joshi was a distinguished Freedom Fighter of the “Dadra–Nagar Haveli Mukti Sangram”. He also had a deep passion for sports — particularly Kabaddi — and visited the Seoul Olympic Games as an official member of the Indian contingent.
The Institute of Science is inspired by the benchmarks set forth by its visionary founder Shri N. C. Joshi, along with Mrs. Mandakini Joshi, whose tireless dedication laid the foundation for generations of excellence in education.
